| INSPIRATION | A Message of Hope "I Am Stronger Than I Thought" Although Valarie Traynham has been living with multiple myeloma, she draws strength from being a Myeloma Warrior. At the 2018 Brian D. Novis Research Grant Awards reception, a night filled with hope held annually during the American Society of Hematology meeting, Valarie movingly described her experiences with the disease and the ways in which the IMF has supported her along the way. She shared, too, her ambitious goals for the future. Read a transcript of her speech now, and see how Valarie is an inspiration for us all. | | EDUCATION | Workshop | | EDUCATION | Seminar | Register Now for a Regional Community Workshop in La Jolla, California | Register Now for the IMF's Patient & Family Seminar in Short Hills, NJ | The IMF will host a Regional Community Workshop at the San Diego Marriot (4240 La Jolla Village Dr.) in La Jolla, CA, on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Currently, many Medicaid patients who qualify for a clinical trial based on their health may not be able to enroll depending on what state they live in. The bill aims to improve access to clinical trials for Medicaid enrollees. It requires states to provide coverage of routine patient costs in connection with participation in qualifying clinical trials. Many state Medicaid programs, as well as private and commercial payers, already require this coverage. Ultimately, expanding access to clinical trials has the potential to help all cancer patients because trials lead to new therapies and discoveries. IMF joined with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Cancer Leadership Counsel to endorse this bill by sending letters to Rep. Lujan and Rep. Bilirakis, the lead sponsors of H.R. 913. Let your Member of Congress know of your support for this legislation at the link below. | | ACTION | The Warrior Spirit The IMF Beckons All Myeloma Warriors to Take Action This March According to IMF Chairman of the Board Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, "Myeloma warriors are patients who seek out the best for themselves while also helping others." Dr. Durie recognizes that not all patients may not be in the condition to reach others. In this case, he suggests that a patient can have a friend or a caregiver be their "Warrior-in-Chief." As Dr. Durie summarizes in this video, having the Warrior Spirit means having "energy and resilience" to live well and care for those with myeloma. Learn ways in which you can take action this Myeloma Action Month to unleash your warrior spirit. | | #ASKDRDURIE | Dr. Durie's Weekly Web Video Series | CLINICAL TRIALS | EVENTS | New isatuximab Clinical Trial: the IMROZ Study New isatuximab Clinical Trial: the IKEMA Study Join the conversation about myeloma on the Smart Patients Message Board | March 15-16, 2019 IMF Patient & Family Seminar Boca Raton, FL March 23, 2019 Regional Community Workshop La Jolla, CA April 5-6, 2019 IMF Patient & Family Seminar Short Hills, NJ April 6, 2019 Regional Community Workshop Seattle, WA April 27, 2019 2019 Miles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk Philadelphia, PA | We Thank Our Sponsors: Amgen, Celgene Corporation, Genentech, Sanofi-Genzyme, and Takeda Oncology and individuals like you who supported the IMF this year |
